How would you describe being a mom in one phrase?
So, I would describe being a mom as a constant challenge. It’s a constant readaptation of my life and my beliefs, but at the same time it’s one of the most rewarding things in the world.
What surprises you about motherhood?
Everything surprises me about motherhood. There are always so many questions about simple things that I never did before.
So, I would say that it’s a big change, and it’s a process of being constantly flexible to my son’s needs.
For me, waking up and seeing the smile of my kiddo, it’s love, it’s like magic for me. I start my day with a really good mood. - Maria Murga
What is it like shaping a child in the pandemic?
Having a baby during the pandemic can be really chaotic because we had to make really fast decisions in our lives with a newborn. That was a chaotic and stressful time, but at the same time, it’s been a great moment for me and my partner to actually have that space and time to spend with our family when the world was shut down.
Did you have a specific birth plan or way that you envisioned raising your baby that may have changed because of the quarantine?
I wouldn’t say that I didn’t have a specific plan, necessarily. I had some ideas, but not a plan. As I mentioned before, having a baby during the pandemic has been chaotic and stressful at times.
How do you balance self-care, work, and motherhood?
I would say that’s the million dollar question! I always try my best, and I believe that we’re not robots. We’re human beings.
I also think that organization is key. It really helps you. Sometimes we struggle asking for help, and that’s really important too. It is necessary to be able to ask for help and say “hey, I need your help with this, this and this…” Be clear on the ask. And I think that in motherhood, it’s a necessity to ask for help.
I’m Maria, and I’m #shapingrealMOMents.
Over this past year, how is it like shaping your son?
There has been a lot of quality time with him, so that’s been great because I had the opportunity to actually give him my time and actually see the progress of his first months. I think I’m a really lucky person for that.
Do or did you struggle with your identity as a caregiver vs. being yourself?
I did struggle with my identity vs. being a caregiver. For me, the main thing is the time, time for myself. So I really struggled with that.
What are your least favorite MOMents as a mom?
For me, it’s one hundred percent not sleeping a full night. Like, that’s the main thing.
Who shaped you when you were growing up?
My parents and my grandmother shaped me.
What do you love about them?
What I love most about my parents, when I was a child, is that they were actually there. I think sometimes we take people’s time and presence for granted, and both are key to educate your child.
What’s your go-to outfit every day?
My go-to outfit for everyday is a good pair of leggings. I am in love with a good pair of quality leggings.
What Shapermint product is your favorite and why would you recommend it to other moms?
I am in love with the Shapermint Essentials High-Waisted Active Shaping Leggings. Even in these times, being a working mom and practicing sports requires me to be on the go all the time, and these leggings are super versatile and fit my day’s schedule perfectly. I would recommend these leggings for sure because of the quality and how they fit.
It’s inspiring to know how Maria navigates through this whole situation. Whether you’re a first-time mom or not, the everyday challenge is real. Remember, you got this, and don't forget to enjoy the ride.
