Ever heard the saying “Be the change you want to see in the world”? Well, the founders of Bottomless Closet certainly embody the sentiment from head to toe.
Bottomless Closet was born inspired by a 1999 New York Times article about the obstacles that mothers on public assistance faced when seeking work. The piece focused on not just the lack of appropriate interview clothing that affected their chances to get hired, but also their life experiences, which sometimes stripped them of the self-confidence they needed to present themselves professionally in an unfamiliar interview setting.
For twenty years the organization has been helping disadvantaged New York City women to enter the workforce and achieve success. They do this by providing women in need access to valuable tools and resources to enter the workforce and succeed. Part of this is making sure they feel confident, and women can go to their boutique to receive clothes for interviews and to get help from coaches to prepare.
Today, Bottomless Closet has served nearly 40,000 women in need, amassed nearly 200 dedicated volunteers and 150 referral partners, and had over 1,000 workshop attendees just last year.
The idea to send over a huge box of shapewear was a no-brainer. What else could help these women feel their most confident during a nerve-wrecking job interview? We quickly got in touch with the amazing women behind Bottomless Closet and yesterday, on #GivingTuesday, donated 450 Shapermint Essentials All Day Every Day High-Waisted Shaper Panty - that’s a donation of $21,600 in retail value!
Of course, not a single part of this donation would be possible if you hadn’t supported us during this entire Black Friday and Cybermonday weekend. So THANK YOU -yes, YOU reading this- for giving us the chance to give back to the female community. YOU ROCK!
