We’re celebrating V-Day and the Season of Love this year, even though it looks a little bit different than last year. But we agree that whether or not you plan to be with your loved one, we should take time to celebrate Me-Day. Because loving yourself is just as important as loving anyone else.
So how do we celebrate Me-Day? With a little self-love and self-care. If you’re not already practicing daily self-love or self-care rituals, it’s time you do. Why should we take better care of ourselves physically, emotionally, and mentally? Read on to find out why and how we’re spicing up our love for ourselves.
What is Self-Care?
The act of self-care isn’t just about getting ready for a romantic stroll to the couch. Even though it is scientifically proven that getting ready every day, even if it’s just to stay inside, improves your mood, confidence and outlook on the day! But self-care can come in many forms. There are 5 general approaches. There’s physical, social, mental, spiritual and emotional self-care. Although some overlap in how they benefit you, we find a mix of a few types make for a well-rounded body and mind.
How to Make a Self-Care Checklist?
To get started on your unique self-care checklist, you need to find a balance between a few dimensions of wellness: emotional, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, and social self-care. With a better understanding of each of the dimensions of wellness, we’re sure you’ll be able to make a list that’s unique to you and totally attainable.
Why is it Important?
Performing a self-care routine has been clinically proven to reduce or eliminate anxiety and depression, reduce stress (this means you may be less susceptible to experiencing heart disease, a stroke or cancer), improve concentration, increase energy, and more. It can also make you a better partner and caregiver. Looks like you should take some liberty to practice self-care before V-Day. You and your partner deserve it ;).
