You’re one of our Brand Ambassadors, part of the Shapermint Crew! What inspired you to join the Crew?
Since I was 11 years old, I have struggled to love my body at any size. It’s taken years of ongoing therapy to learn that my body deserves praise each day. Shapermint promotes the same philosophy. I always feel seen and accepted when engaging with Shapermint. I knew early on, I wanted to be a part of the Shapermint Crew.
What do you enjoy most about being on the Crew?
I love that the Shapermint team gives us creative support. While there might be specific requirements in what I create, the Shapermint team always reminds me to feel free to express myself authentically.
How do you want to shape change with us?
Growing up, I don't remember having any brands in mind that will remind me to celebrate my shape. It was quite the opposite. I want to continue to bring a representation of my body to the social media world. If I can remind at least one person that they’re beautiful as they are, then I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing.
How do you define body positivity?
To put it simply, it’s happiness in my own body each day. Now, that being said, it's not every day that I feel happy about my body. Sometimes I feel neutral, sometimes upset, and some days I feel like the hottest woman ever. The goal is happiness, but everything in between is also worthy of recognition. - Mady
How does Shapermint help you celebrate your shape?
I’ve always loved my curvy shape, but my tummy and breast have always been an insecurity of mine. The first time I wore a Shapermint bra and bodysuit, I felt like a new person. I finally felt the confidence to wear bodycon pieces and feel good about my shape. I know what my body looks like under the Shapermint pieces but at the end of the day, it’s still the same body and that is worth celebrating.
What does self-care mean to you? Do you have any particular rituals or routines that spark self-love?
Self-care to me is drinking my early morning green tea and writing in my journal. I’m a morning person and don’t go to work until 9. So waking up at 6 am and getting my tea ready and snuggling with a blanket and journal is true bliss. I write my feelings, then make breakfast, stretch, and continue with my day. It’s the small things that took me a long time to learn that I needed to do for my mental health. My whole morning routine is a form of self-love because it’s my time alone to check-in. It brings me joy each day.
We absolutely love the fact that you use social media as a liberating force to celebrate body positivity and other movers & shapers out there. Are there any women on social media who inspire you to be your best self?
In my personal life, it's my mom, grandma, and my cousin Aahlia. In my social media life, it's @glowgetterdiary @aplusfashion @fiercelyfifthavenue @curvylanna All these women have inspired me always to be my authentic self.
Whether it’s creating content for social media, my personal life, or my work life. I stand behind all these women and it always brings me joy to see them grow in their own lives.
What is your favorite Shapermint essential? How do you like to style it?
My favorite Shapermint essential is the shaping leggings. I love how high-waisted they are. It is also super easy to dress them up or down. I personally love styling them with a button-up or cardigan and booties.
How can you empower women of the next generation as Shapermint Crew?
Remind them that body neutrality and positivity aren’t achieved instantly. It takes work and many years to feel neutral or positive about your body. That is okay! Each day is an opportunity to grow. Allow yourself to keep growing.
Looking in front of the mirror, what would want to tell yourself?
11-year-old Mady is so proud of you. You’ve learned to love yourself and to give yourself compassion. You’ve grown in confidence and grace. You are blessed and are a blessing unto others You are worthy of love. You deserve good things in your life. You deserve happiness.
