Social media has become a part of our everyday lives. So let us ask you, who is your favorite social media influencer and why? For us, it’s the brave and passionate women who want to shape change.
In continuation of our #Shapermintcrewlove series, one of our Brand Ambassadors, Lauren Hope shared her experience about being a Shapermint Crew member, and her thoughts on self-love and body positivity. Keep reading to see the full interview below!
What do you enjoy most about being on the Crew?
I LOVE all the marketing and imagery around self-love. I have struggled with loving my curves. I am over 200 pounds and I'm 5'2. So many things I saw in the media told me I was not the standard of beauty. Shapermint is proof positive that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors. I LOVE THAT!
How do you want to shape change with us?
Like Shapermint, I want to encourage women to wear that dress, put on that bikini, and love every part of themselves. Our bodies are beautiful, and I want to empower women to love their bodies.
How do you define body positivity?
Body positivity is self-love. Because we know when we love ourselves, we can love others, and love is powerful!
Body positivity to me is allowing every shape, and size to have a seat at the table. It is giving a spotlight to all types of beauty. Beauty is not one-size-fits-all. - Lauren
Self-love is especially important. Do you have any particular rituals or routines that spark self-love?
I have a few self-love routines. I am self-conscious about my stomach. So everyone morning I stand in the mirror and I rub my stomach and honor it for what it is. I love taking time to glam myself in the morning with some cute makeup, a nice outfit, and of course Shapermint. I also enjoy watching YouTube makeup videos and trying out the looks. It is a way to honor myself and cater to my beauty.
We absolutely love the fact that you use social media as a liberating force to celebrate body positivity and other movers & shapers out there. Are there any women on social media who inspire you to be your best self?
I am very inspired by plus-size influencers @thestellawilliams and @ashleygraham. These women show me that I can be sexy at my size. I love how they own their bodies and shapes.
How important has stocking up on basics been to you during the quarantine?
The quarantine was definitely difficult. However, I was able to capitalize on a few sales and deals. When the prices on my staples like bras, panties, and makeup were on sale I stocked up on them. I now have a diverse array of clothes and outfits, and I am not spending as much right now. I believe every woman should have a few basics: a good bra, a sports bra, good control panties, and good lipstick.
What are your top tips for breaking out of a fashion/style rut?
I like taking inspiration from other celebrities and influencers. When I am in a style rut I flip through fashion magazines or Glamour or Cosmopolitan. Seeing how fashion designers put together clothes, and editorial modeling pics always pushes me to be bold in my style again.
What is your favorite Shapermint style? How do you like to style it?
My favorite thing from Shapermint right now is the All Day Every Day High-Waisted Shaper Boyshort. I love it because it conceals my stomach, and helps prevent thigh rub.
Want to share anything else?
I am a mental health advocate also. I live with PTSD, Major Depression, and Anxiety. I am also a suicide attempt survivor. I live and thrive with these mental health challenges. Every day I make a choice to choose joy. I also realize that life is precious. Too precious to not love the body I was given, and to honor it. I want women to feel this also.
